Drinking In Detail Process

G'DAY! I've been in Australia the past four months ( hence the lack of posts) but finally have some time to post my work.

This class, Drinking In Detail, focuses on bar design and joinery details that create this design. We began by visiting five bars and drawing, mapping, and analyzing the details of each bar. we looked at the way people interact and the way the bar is put together.

After this, we were asked to design a bar using only one piece of joinery. which means, the bar. seating, and tables must all be connected to one another. we could have no free standing seating except a few bar stools, and no free standing tables or display cases.

above is some of my process...

the first images are my original idea. I wanted the wine display to be connection between the wooden structures, and the constrast in stains to provide interest. The tables were going to suspend between the timber as well.

then... I came up with another idea with more joinery.These images are from my first model we had to make... I wanted my bar to be a floating screen that was made from wooden slats moving around the space. the seating would be pieces that could fold out of the structure to move out or hide whenever needed.
